Higher shipping price, means faster/better service, right?

A FedEx 3Day Freight shipment from San Francisco to Los Angeles for $745. I asked the logistics manager why he chose FedEx 3Day Freight for this shipment as was told, “We had to get it there in three days and did not want to take any chances. This customer would have been very angry if the shipment was late.” I checked and found that there were several Less Than Truckload (LTL) carriers that would have delivered the same shipment for $125 with a one day guarantee. He paid 6 times more because he thought that by paying more would be faster service.

FedEx, UPS & USPS Dimensional Weight Explained

Ahh, my favorite subject, yours to I presume? Dimensional weight, when you get charged the 30lb rate for a 2lb package, welcome to Dimensional weight shipping. A 2lb package ships from Florida to California costs $7.00, a 30lb package $27.92. A big difference, huh? The package in question is a 2lb product, packaged in a box measuring 22"x22"x12", due to it's "large" size, it calculates to a dimensional weight of 30lbs. Now lets say if we packed this product into a slightly smaller box, say a 21"x20"x12" box, we would be charged the 2lb rate, not the 30lb rate, as this box size is the largest we can send without incurring the dimensional weight charge. So by shaving about 3" in box, we saved $20.92. So be sure to pay attention to box size when shipping!
